The first pound cake

Our Story

The story of Emily’s Heirloom Pound Cakes began in 2013 because of a need to raise $14,400 to send our two sons on study-abroad trips to China (17 days) and Europe (20 days) as student ambassadors. For the last 100 years, this cake has been a staple dish amongst all our family and friends which led to the unanimous decision to use this recipe to make our sons’ dreams a reality. Inspired by our Big Mama, Emily Magnolia McClung, with a modern twist, this fabulous cake represents love and everything good about family. Fundraising was new to my family, but we gained some traction through social media and local farmers’ markets/pop-up shops. Making our cake available for public retail taught us several things but the thing that stood out to us most is that like our friends – many others say our recipe is “one of the best pound cakes” they have EVER had. THIS pound cake – so light and moist, brings back precious memories of a simpler time. We often have customers tell us our cake is what pound cakes used to look & taste like. This eventually led to the birth of what is known today as “Emily’s Heirloom Pound Cakes”. As of today, our cake has been shipped all around the country and we are pleased to share that our initial goal of sending the boys away was a success. Not only was I able to give them a trip of a lifetime, but now I can give them something that can last forever… a family LEGACY!
